Crowns help us repair teeth that have been weakened, restoring the tooth to a natural look and function. There are many reasons why a tooth can become weak – tooth fracture, untreated decay, or even large fillings can weaken our teeth over time. In order to protect and preserve your smile, a crown might be recommended.
What Is a Crown? A Custom-Created Cover for Your Tooth
Patients who may need the tooth strengthened due to an enamel fracture or decay under the restoration, we also offer all-ceramic crowns made by an aesthetic dental lab that we have worked with for over 10 years.
Benefits of crowns
- Crowns can be recommended for a few reasons:
- You have a large cavity that a filling alone can’t repair.
- You have an old filling that needs restoration.
- You have a severely worn, cracked, or broken tooth.
- You’ve undergone root canal treatment.
- You have a misshapen or discolored tooth.
Crown Procedure: Protecting Teeth, Restoring Strength
At the first appointment, we’ll examine your tooth and determine the best solution for restoring it. If a crown is deemed the ideal treatment, we’ll prepare the tooth. We reshape your enamel to ensure the most precise fit for the crown. Then, we take digital impressions so your crown can be custom-created just for your smile. A temporary crown will cover your tooth until the permanent crown is ready. Then, when it’s ready, you’ll return to our office for its placement. It will be bonded securely and polished to ensure a natural look and feel.
Caring for your crown is as easy as caring for your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily and avoid chewing on hard objects to avoid damage.
At Deerpath Orthodontics and Family Dental, we believe restoring your smile should not only be functional, but beautiful as well. Our crowns can ensure you can enjoy your smile for years to come.
